The South China Sea and the Future of Maritime East Asia
Peter A Dutton, Professor and Director, China Maritime Studies Institute, United States Naval War College
Chair: Michal Meidan, Associate Fellow, Asia Programme, Chatham House
The speaker will argue that since 2009, China has significantly increased its control over the South China Sea. While creating facts on the ground through land reclamation, China still refuses to participate in international arbitration or other dispute resolution mechanisms. The speaker will focus on the strategic implications of China's South China Sea policies, and outline policy options for the governments in the US and Europe.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
