Overview

Vladimir Putin has been widely credited with taming organized crime in Russia, and this event focuses on the evolution of Russian organized crime during Putin’s time in power.

Mark Galeotti analyzes the links between the state, business and organized crime in Russia, and talks about the impact events such as the global financial crisis and Russia’s annexation of Crimea have had on organized crime networks in the country.

His presentation builds on themes covered in his new book The Vory: Russia’s Super Mafia (Yale University Press, 2018).

Following his brief introductory remarks, there is an hour for questions and discussion. The event is on the record.
