Turkey’s Foreign Policy Priorities in Africa
H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Turkey
Chair: Bob Dewar, Associate Fellow, Africa Programme, Chatham House
Turkey’s engagements with Africa have deepened significantly in recent years and the government in Ankara continues to seek deeper strategic engagement with partners across North and sub-Saharan Africa. Turkey’s total trade volume with the continent reached $16.7 billion in 2016 (up from $7.5 billion in 2005); the continent is now host to 39 Turkish embassies; and presidential and high-level ministerial visits to Africa have become increasingly commonplace.
At this event, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will discuss how Turkey has sought to develop a sustainable relationship with Africa.
