UK Foreign Policy: Europe, China and How to Remain Relevant

Chatham House, London

Participants

Dr Robin Niblett CMG, Director, Chatham House
Chair: Xenia Wickett, Project Director, US; Dean, The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs, Chatham House

Overview

On the eve of the first Chinese state visit to the UK since 2005, Dr Robin Niblett will present a new paper outlining his vision for how the UK can maximise its relevance and influence in Europe, East Asia and beyond in the face of intense global economic competition, mounting security challenges and decaying international institutions. He will outline why Britain is likely to be richer, safer and more influential in the coming decades if it commits its future to the EU and treats Europe as the ‘inner circle’ of its foreign and security policy.
