Under-Reported Sudan: Civil Society Priorities

Chatham House, London

Al Haj Warraq, Editor, Al Hurriyat
Abdullah Musa, Civil Society Representative, Eastern Sudan; Member, Sudan Call Leadership Council
Abdul Moneim El Jak, Chief Executive, Sudan Democracy First Group
Chair: Rosalind Marsden, Associate Fellow, Africa Programme, Chatham House

At this event, leading civil society actors will present their priorities on a range of critical challenges in Sudan. Discussions will include eastern Sudan, which remains insecure despite a 2006 peace deal, and has become a transitory route for migrants attempting to reach Europe via Libya. The speakers will also explore the challenges presented by radical Islam following the momentum gained by Salafist groups, particularly in universities. Developments in the government-led National Dialogue Conference concluded in October 2016 will also be examined.
