Unreported World: China's LGBT Community
Participants
Overview
In 1997 the Chinese government decriminalized same-sex relationships and homosexuality was later removed from the Ministry of Health's list of mental illnesses. However China’s LGBT community continues to face the challenge of dominant traditional views and there have been a number of arrests of LGBT activists in recent years.
A team from Channel 4’s Unreported World will show an upcoming film which investigates the ‘conversion’ treatments offered by many Chinese hospitals and follows a group of LGBT activists who are closely monitored by the authorities. Against this backdrop, the panel will examine the state of human rights for LGBT people in China and the growth of the LGBT movement in China.
This is an Under 35s Forum event and is held in association with Channel 4.
Please note this event will be followed by a reception.
