Overview

Although Africa’s recent economic performance has weakened in tandem with the slowdown of the global economy, the prospects for the continent’s growth in the long term remain encouraging, owing to Africa’s demographic surge and industrialization plans. The continent’s success, however, will hinge on how policymakers can leverage Africa’s rapidly accelerating urbanization to ensure sustained industrial growth - only then can a genuine structural transformation take root.

At this event, which will launch UNECA’s 2017 Economic Report on Africa, the speakers will examine options available for strengthening the links between industrialization and urbanization in Africa.
