Overview

The Obama administration has announced an aggressive commitment on the part of the United States to reduce greenhouse gases and a unique agreement on greenhouse gas reductions with China. This talk will focus on these commitments within the context of action in the United States. The speaker will discuss the important role of US states in moving toward a low carbon future for the US. This will include a discussion on the actions states have taken, and will undertake, under the new regulations from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, the emerging carbon market in the US, technological developments advancing a clean energy future and trends in US policy. The speaker will also discuss some of the political realities in the US in the face of changing energy markets and what it means for the future of US emissions.
