What the Future Holds: The Political Economy and How to Shape It

Chatham House, London

International Economics Department

Participants

Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Poland (1994-97; 2002-03); Author, Whither the World: The Political Economy of the Future

Overview

Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko will use his analysis of social sciences and comparative economics to discuss the interconnecting issues facing the global economy. He will argue that the future of civilization depends not only on what happens in the economic sphere but also how the economic sphere interplays with cultural, social, political, demographic, technological and ecological processes. Drawing on his recent research, the speaker will employ this holistic approach to provide insight into how these processes presently work, how they will work in the future, the threats they face and the potential strategies for moving past them.
