Yemen’s Political Wildcard
Ginny Hill, Author, Yemen Endures: Civil War, Saudi Adventurism and the Future of Arabia
Chair: Peter Salisbury, Senior Research Fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House
In the chaos following the ousting of Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2011 from the presidency of Yemen, civil war and regional interference have plagued the Arab world’s poorest country.
Ginny Hill, the former head of Chatham House’s Yemen Forum and author of the new book, Yemen Endures, will discuss the historical roots of the conflict that has ravaged the country since 2015. Paying special attention to the Saleh era, she will discuss how the ousted president has maintained his grip on power in Yemen, and how he will be crucial to either ending the conflict – or sustaining it for years to come.
