Zimbabwe'€™s Agenda for SADC: Regional and International Priorities

16 September 2014 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Chatham House, London

Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Zimbabwe

At the 34th Summit of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government held at Victoria Falls in August, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe was confirmed as the chair of the SADC. Zimbabwe also heads the SADC Council of Ministers. Although the country still faces economic challenges, the chairmanship will nevertheless strengthen Zimbabwe’s strategic position within southern Africa, and marks a further step towards international re-engagement. At this meeting, Zimbabwe's deputy foreign minister, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, will discuss the country’s foreign policy priorities, and the SADC agenda for 2014 and beyond.
