Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi: Trends, Challenges and Regional Relations
Ambassador Matthew Neuhaus, Australian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi (2008-15)
Chair: Dr Alex Vines OBE, Research Director, Area Studies and International Law; Head, Africa Programme
Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi have each held elections in the past two years, yet these polls have not brought political stability to the region. Fractious party politics, disagreements over presidential secession and lingering corruption have reduced local populations’ faith in their political representatives, and have raised concerns from international donors and stakeholders.
Ambassador Matthew Neuhaus was the Australian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi until February 2015. At this meeting he will discuss cross-border political trends and country-specific challenges, and will assess the benefits of the continued engagement of the international community.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
