Conservative Party Conference - Navigating Britain’s role in the development landscape

Join Chatham House and UNICEF UK at the Conservative Party Conference this October.

Event date and time: 1 October 2024 — 09:00 TO 10:00 BST

Event location: Conservative – ICC Hall 11B, Birmingham

This session will assess the approach the UK should take in the development landscape in a more unpredictable and volatile world. Over the past 14 years in government, the Conservative Party ushered in many significant changes in the country’s approach to international development. This event will analyse the effectiveness of these changes and look at how the country can position itself going forward to use the unique tools at Britain’s disposal to foster a strategy fit for this uncertain world.

Chatham House, in partnership with UNICEF UK, will discuss:

  • What lessons can be learned from the Conservative government’s experience in managing the country’s international development strategy?
  • How did the merger of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development affect Britain’s approach in this sphere?
  • What can be done to further position Britain as a leader in science, technology and health and how can this effectively be combined into future development strategies?
  • How can future governments use vehicles like the Foreign Office, the Commonwealth and others to effectively deepen our relationships on the international scene when it comes to development finance?

This event will take place within the secure zone. Please register your interest to receive communications about future events on similar topics.
