Research event, Roundtable Invitation only
26 January 2023 — 8:30AM TO 9:30AM
Chatham House

This high-level roundtable brings together a group of senior participants to discuss the UK’s role in Nordic-Baltic security in the context of the war in Ukraine.

This event includes participants from the UK government, the embassies of northern European countries and additional experts in order to discuss some of the initial conclusions of a joint Chatham House-ICDS research project on the UK’s role in Nordic-Baltic security and UK-Estonia defence cooperation.

Participants assess the prospects and priorities for enhanced British involvement in the Nordic-Baltic area bilaterally through NATO and also through formats such as the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). They explore what to expect from the UK’s future defence budget and the ‘refresh’ of the Integrated Review. Finally, the participants look at understanding and defining opportunities for further cooperation as well as managing expectations between the UK and its regional partners.

This event is organized as part of a collaborative project with ICDS.
