Overview

This event is a roundtable discussion on nuclear disarmament. The topic will be introduced by Dr Kerry M Kartchner, Senior Advisor for Strategic Planning, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, US Department of State. He will present an assessment of foreign perceptions of US nuclear weapons and nonproliferation policy and will contrast those perceptions with an explanation of on-going US nuclear disarmament activities and a summary of its current nuclear weapons and nonproliferation policy. This summary will include the status of the nuclear modernization debate within the US nuclear policy community.

Paul Bernstein of Science Applications International Corporation, US, will follow with a brief assessment of the current nuclear policy debate in the US with recent legislative proposals, major opinion pieces, and analytic studies underway.
