In April 2007 the Council of the European Union approved the directives for the negotiation of comprehensive Association Agreements with Central America and the Andean Community. Negotiations are to cover co-operation, political dialogue and trade, including the complete package of WTO-plus issues. Implications for the region will be wide-ranging.
This meeting will discuss the current state of play of the negotiations and the forthcoming sustainability impact assessments which will be implemented in parallel. It will assess some of the major implications of the Association Agreements for Central America and the Andean community, particularly the inclusion of the Singapore issues in the negotiations.
