Moby Media Group, the parent company of Tolo TV, is a vast and innovative Afghan media company spearheading significant change in the media landscape in Afghanistan. Founded by four Afghan Australian siblings who returned to Afghanistan in 2002, it dominates the media market and has an unrivalled ability to influence its intended target audiences through a broad range of media projects that aim to reach, educate and entertain the populace.
One of its brightest stars, Tolo TV, is Afghanistan's most popular television channel. In 2005 Tolo TV won the prestigious RSF (Reporters Sans Frontieres) award in recognition of its role in contributing to press freedom in Afghanistan. It is also home to Afghan Star - Afghanistan's version of Pop Idol - the biggest phenomenon to date in Afghanistan's burgeoning entertainment world.
The speakers will talk about the challenges facing the media in Afghanistan and give their perspective on the political, social and economic situation within the country, and the extent to which TV is able to affect and improve the climate.
