The Georgian Challenge and the New US Administration, Europe and Russia

21 January 2009 - 9:00am to 10:30am

Chatham House, London

Salomé Zourabichvili, Associate Professor at Sciences Po, Paris, and former Foreign Minister of Georgia

The speaker will argue that the ramifications of last August's events in Georgia, combined with the effects of the global financial crisis will not be easily overcome. This, in turn, has lead to greater internal instability in Georgia with further cabinet reshuffles and an increasingly belligerent opposition. Mikheil Saakashvili will be looking nervously toward the new US administration for support, though this will not extend to a NATO Membership Action Plan in the short or medium term.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
