The 'Resource Curse' and Russia's Economic Crisis

10 March 2009 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Chatham House, London

Vladislav Inozemtsev, Editor-in-Chief, Le Monde Diplomatique (Russian edition)

Almost a decade of high growth has not disguised the fact that Russia has struggled to diversify its economy away from the extractive sectors. The recent fall in oil prices has again exposed Russia's dependency on hydrocarbon exports and put the leadership under real pressure for the first time in a decade. This roundtable will examine the contribution of the resource bias to Russia's current economic crisis, and assess possible scenarios for the country's future development.

Attendance at this event is strictly by invitation only.
