Latest Developments in European Security: A Baltic Perspective
Rasa Jukneviciene, Defence Minister of Lithuania, will examine recent develoments in European security, including Russia's new National Security Strategy, President Medvedev's call for a European security architecture, NATO's forthcoming Strategic Concept, and, most recently, the US decision to modify its plans for Missile Defence in Europe. She will examine the likely implications of these developments for Europe's security, the future of trans-Atlantic integration, and the specific concerns of the Baltic states in the context of Russia's increasingly assertive foreign policy.
Mrs Jukneviciene has been defence minister of Lithuania since December 2008, and a Member of Parliament since 1990. Between 2000-2008 she served as a Member of the National Security and Defence Committee. She has also served as Deputy Head of the Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and later Head of the Delegation, and Assistant Speaker of the Parliament and Chair of the NATO Affairs Commission. She is also Vice-Chair of Homeland Union/Lithuanian Conservatives Party.
