Tom Scholar, Second Permanent Secretary, HM Treasury
Tom Scholar was appointed Second Permanent Secretary in March 2009, after serving for a year as Managing Director (International and Finance). From 2007 to 2008 he was Chief of Staff and Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. From 2001 to 2007 he was Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and Minister (Economic) at the British Embassy in Washington DC. Prior to that he held a number of positions at HM Treasury, including Principal Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1998 to 2001).
