Power in Angola: from Centre to Periphery
Since the end of the civil war in Angola, restructuring the relationship between the centre of power in Luanda and the vast hinterland has been a priority as well as a challenge for the government. This roundtable will explore how the Angolan state has been decentralizing power in recent years, the power relations that have evolved and the implications of decentralization efforts for Angola's future.
Aslak Orre is a political scientist focussing on local government reform and the politics of decentralization, as well as corruption and anti-corruption. His current work is on a PhD-thesis on traditional authorities, political parties and the local state in Angola and Mozambique.
