Overview

To mark the first anniversary of Barack Obama's presidency, Chatham House researchers will review the major developments of the last twelve months and assess how President Obama has handled the challenges facing US foreign policy in a time of change. They will reflect on the initial successes and missteps of the administration in a wide range of policy areas including relations with China, Russia, and the European Union; and global issues such as the international economic crisis and tackling climate change. The speakers will aim to draw lessons from President Obama's first year in office to consider what the implications might be for US strategy and international affairs for the rest of his term in office.
