Haiti: On the Ground
The most recent reports suggest that over 200,000 people have been killed by the Haitian earthquake and 3 million affected. In the wake of this natural disaster the speaker will address how the international community should respond to this immediate emergency, while bringing long term structural change to the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Having just returned from Haiti, she will examine what developmental challenges existed before the earthquake and why the international community must go beyond the Haitian government to deliver services to the population directly.
There will be a breakfast reception beforehand from 07.30.
