With India and China playing a greater role on the global stage the speaker will explore key questions around engagement with these countries, focusing on the dramatic rise of China. He will examine these questions, from an East Asian perspective, and suggest ways of engaging with these emerging and increasingly assertive Asian countries through economic, military and political means.

Mr Nobukatsu Kanehara is Deputy Director for European Affairs in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He has served in various key posts such as Political Minister in Washington DC, Director of Policy Coordination Division, Director of Japan-US Security Treaty Division, Director of Policy Planning Division.
