Beyond the ICC: The Role of Domestic Courts in Prosecuting International Crimes Committed in Africa

30 April 2010 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Chatham House, London

Ben Kioko, Chief Legal Adviser, African Union
Nicole Fritz, Executive Director, Southern Africa Litigation Centre
Reed Brody, Counsel and Spokesperson, Human Rights Watch

The purpose of this event is to explore the contribution of domestic courts in delivering justice for international crimes committed on the African continent; balance the existing focus on the International Criminal Court in debates about accountability for international crimes in Africa; and launch a new Chatham House briefing paper, 'Universal Jurisdiction for International Crimes: Africa's Hope for Justice?', by Dr Louise Arimatsu.
