The Obama Administration and Asia: An Interim Assessment
Dr Satu Limaye, Director, East-West Center (EWC), Washington
Chair: Dr Kerry Brown, Senior Fellow, Asia Programme, Chatham House
The Obama Administration has begun its first term with considerable attention to the Asia-Pacific region: high-profile visits, new attention to Southeast Asia, overtures to Burma, and plans for a comprehensive partnership with Indonesia, are among the examples of activism. But the administration also grapples with long-running challenges including the management of US-China relations, alliance management and transformation with Japan, and the persistent difficulty of North Korea.
Dr Limaye will present an assessment of US-Asia relations and discuss regional trends and developments that will shape the future of US relations with the region.
