South Africa: Perspectives on Political and Economic Developments

25 October 2010 - 15:00 to 16:00

Chatham House, London

Joel Netshitenzhe, Head of Policy co-ordination and Advisory Services in The Presidency, South Africa
Chair: John Battersby, UK Country Manager, International Marketing Council of South Africa

As an important advisor in the Presidency with a distinguished career in the ANC, Joel Netshitenzhe is uniquely placed to offer some authoritative perspectives on the economic and political situation in South Africa over recent months and prospects for the future. Particular themes include how South Africa can turn the success of the World Cup into economic advantage and develop a clear strategy to enhance its global competitiveness.

Other issues he will address include how South Africa can draw investors into a partnership for the development of the country. More South African officials are talking about the Chinese economic model as something that needs to be emulated in South Africa. How can the South African Government combine greater state involvement in the economy and at the same time safeguard the democratic gains of 1194-96?

Attendance is by invitation only.
