Reinventing Fire

Chatham House, London

Energy, Environment and Resources Department

Participants

Amory B Lovins, Chairman and Chief Scientist, Rocky Mountain Institute
Chair: Kirsty Hamilton, Associate Fellow, Energy, Environment and Resource Government, Chatham House

Overview

The speaker will discuss the Rocky Mountain Institute's forthcoming roadmap for eliminating US oil and coal use by 2050, led by business for profit. He will examine how, in electricity, the rapidly emerging shift from wasteful to highly efficient use and from central thermal stations to distributed renewable sources looks cheaper, less risky and more resilient than current arrangements, and will discuss analogous opportunities in the UK.
