Angry America at the Mid-Terms
Professor Michael Cox, Associate Fellow, Americas, Chatham House
The speaker will explain why many Americans are angry - angry with President Obama for not bringing about an economic recovery, angry with China for challenging America's economic dominance, and angry with 'illegals' from the South who they see as stealing their jobs and destroying the very fabric of traditional America. In a situation where the Democrats appear to be ebbing support, and the Republicans are coming under increasing pressure from their populist base, Professor Cox will suggest that there is little expectation that the mid-term elections will produce anything like a stable political environment or a consensus on foreign policy. Very difficult times lie ahead.
