Is the Euro Here to Stay?
Max Watson, Associate Fellow, Chatham House; Fellow, Wolfson College, Oxford; Non-Executive Director, Central Bank of Ireland
In 2008, the European Commission and the European Central Bank feted the Euro's 10th birthday with studies highlighting the stability it had brought, while warning of challenges that remained. The speaker will discuss, how two years later, the global crisis has opened up the cracks in this incomplete agenda. The briefing will explore how deep the problems are besetting the euro, lessons for policy-makers at the national and euro area levels and what this means for countries committed to join the euro in the future.
Mr. Watson will be speaking in a personal capacity.
