Obama and the Middle East: Two Years On

9 February 2011 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Chatham House, London

James Zogby, Founder and President, Arab American Institute, Washington DC, Senior Advisor, Zogby International
Chair: Professor Robert Singh, Birkbeck College, University of London

President Barack Obama came into office with the Arab world expecting great changes in US Middle East policy. At the time, polling done by Zogby International showed that Arab attitudes toward the US and its new President were more favourable than had been during the Bush Administration. Two years later, the 'Obama bounce' has gone and earlier positive attitudes have soured. The author of Arab Voices: What They Are Saying to Us and Why It Matters will argue that the Obama Administration squandered its moment to improve frayed ties across the Arab world.
