Was Iraq an Unjust War?

22 March 2011 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Chatham House, London

Introducing the book: Professor Sir Michael Howard, President Emeritus, IISS
Arguing for the motion: Dr David Fisher, King's College, London, former senior official, Ministry of Defence and author of Morality and War
Arguing against the motion: Professor Nigel Biggar, Regius Professor of Moral Theology, Oxford University

This debate, held in conjunction with The Council on Christian Approaches to Defence and Disarmament and Oxford University Press, marked the launch of Morality and War - Can War be Just in the Twenty-First Century? by David Fisher. It explored how just war thinking can be developed to address twenty-first century security concerns. In recent years no foreign policy issue has aroused such concern as the US/UK military operations in Iraq, the morality of which was the focus of the discussion.

A drinks reception at Chatham House followed the debate.
