Japan and the Changing Global Order
Some observers have argued that the emergence of the G20 and its eclipse of the G8 summit represents one of the most salient symptoms of the changing global order. The speaker will consider the intensive period of 'G' summitry between 2008 and 2010 and explore the response of Japan as a 'risen' power to these shifts in the global order. He will argue that the contradictions that lie at the heart of Japan's response cast doubt on its ability to maintain its current status.
