Elena Barabantseva, Research Fellow, British Inter-University China Centre, University of Manchester
The speaker will examine the role of overseas Chinese and ethnic minorities in China's national modernisation project. She will argue that the interplay between China's modernisation programmes and nationalist discourses has shaped its national project and will emphasise the centrality of the notions of territoriality and ethnicity.
