21 March 2011 - 9:00am to 10:30am

Chatham House, London

David Rekhviashvili, Commercial Advisor, ExxonMobil International
Michael Bradshaw, Professor of Human Geography, University of Leicester

Collaboration and joint ventures between western international oil companies (IOCs) and national oil companies (NOCs) are increasingly attractive options in the race to secure and produce more oil and gas.

David Rekhviashvili will talk about the challenges involved in reconciling IOC and NOC objectives and the experience of ExxonMobil in Central Asia, Russia and other regions; Professor Michael Bradshaw will elaborate on the BP-Rosneft deal (currently on hold) and the prospects for greater IOC involvement in Russia. Discussion will open up to a host of issues relating to the global spread of this phenomenon with responses from NGO and country specialists.
