The speaker will discuss the new and fragmented world of contemporary diplomacy and consider whether film stars, billionaires and charitable foundations are now playing as big a role as governments. He will assess the actual impact of high-profile individuals such as George Clooney and Angelina Jolie, as well as the likes of George Soros and Bill Gates. The role of Twitter and Facebook in North Africa and the Middle East will be discussed and the speaker will also comment on developments around the referendum in South Sudan where Independent Diplomat has been closely involved in the self-determination process.

There will be a breakfast reception from 08.30.

This meeting will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
