The Rise and Fall of the Dollar

22 March 2011 - 3:45pm to 5:30pm

Chatham House, London

Professor Barry Eichengreen, University of California, Berkeley
Chair: Professor Nick Crafts, University of Warwick

Professor Barry Eichengreen will share key findings from his recent book Exorbitant Privilege. In Exorbitant Privilege, he warns that the dollar will lose its preeminent status in international currency only if the US repeats the mistakes that led to the financial crisis, and fails to put its fiscal house in order. Exorbitant Privilege challenges those who warn that the dollar is doomed as well as those who regard its continuing dominance as inevitable.

This seminar forms part of the Chatham House - CAGE partnership supported by the ESRC and aims to bring prominent academics to share their views and ideas on key issues in international economics with an expert audience.

Attendance is by invitation only.
