NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan: Enabling Security Transition

12 April 2011 - 13:30 to 14:30

Chatham House, London

Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, Commander, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan
Chair: Caroline Wyatt, Defence Correspondent, BBC News

NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan leads the training of the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police. Since its establishment in November 2009, General Caldwell has commanded an organization which has expanded the Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) by 86,000 personnel.

With the President of Afghanistan's recent announcements on transition, the responsibility to train and develop a Force which is capable of taking control of security by the end of 2014 rests with NTM-A. General Caldwell will specify what lies ahead for the ANSF as they prepare to replace ISAF personnel and effect an irreversible transition.
