Promoting Sustainable Economic Development: Financial Services and Development of Nigeria's Real Economy

10 May 2011 - 9:30am to 10:30am

Chatham House, London

Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria
Chair: Oliver August, Africa Editor, The Economist

Governor Sanusi was appointed to his current position in June 2009, at a time when Nigeria's financial sector was being badly impacted by the global financial crisis. Since that time Governor Sanusi has built up an enviable reputation as a far sighted and hands on decision maker.

Now Governor Sanusi arguably faces an even bigger challenge as, post elections, Nigeria's fiscal position must be stabilised whilst at the same time ambitious diversification and growth aims need to be pursued to deliver on the promises made by electoral candidates. At this event, Governor Sanusi will outline his plans and address the challenges Nigeria must face if it is to fulfil its considerable economic potential.
