Russia and Japan's Role in East Asia

This roundtable will examine the role Japan and Russia will play in the East Asian security environment in the context of China's rise. The speaker will discuss the present and future prospects for Russo-Japanese relations, taking into account Russia's domestic political situation ahead of the parliamentary and presidential elections, and its foreign policy strategy to integrate itself within the Asia-Pacific region.

Toyohisa Kozuki is the leading Russia expert in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has been posted to Russia three times, and served as Director of the Russian Division of the European Affairs Bureau and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy in Moscow. He was appointed Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January 2011.
