Chatham House, London

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
Chair: Chi Onwurah MP

Nigeria's April elections were the most open contest the country has experienced since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999, with opposition parties overall presenting a greater challenge to the dominant Peoples Democratic Party than in past elections. Yet while opposition parties made gains in some states and in the national assembly, questions remain as to the capacity and viability of opposition parties to present a serious alternative to the PDP, which maintains its leading position in Nigerian politics.

At this event, ACN leader Bola Tinubu, will discuss his vision for the development and growing role of opposition parties in Nigeria, with particular reference to the experiences of the Action Congress of Nigeria.
