Urban Poverty Reduction: Best Practice from Angola

Chatham House, London

Africa Programme, Angola Project

Andy Rutherford, former Head of International Partnerships, One World Action
Allan Cain, Director of Development Workshop (Angola)

The award-winning Luanda Urban Poverty Programme (LUPP) has achieved considerable successes in the areas of water and sanitation, early childhood development, micro-finance and participatory governance.  The programme began in 1999 and evolved from a loosely grouped series of activities focusing mainly on service delivery, to a successful advocacy and participatory governance initiative.

At this event, speakers from LUPP partner organizations One World Action and Development Workshop will discuss LUPP and it implementation in a challenging post-conflict environment, and how it became a reference for urban development work across Africa and in post-conflict societies.
