Does Moldova have a Future in Europe?

7 September 2011 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Chatham House, London

Iurie Leancă, Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

The speaker will consider the prospects for Moldovan accession to the EU in the context of a challenging domestic political environment. The latest parliamentary elections in Moldova produced a coalition orientated towards increased European integration. However, the alliance lacks sufficient deputies to elect a new President. Despite the political deadlock, the coalition has advanced the country’s EU prospects by implementing many reforms to bring legislation in line with EU norms.

The Minister will speak for twenty minutes, followed by approximately an hour of questions and discussion.
