France and Africa after the Libyan Intervention

26 October 2011 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Chatham House, London

Stéphane Gompertz, Head of Africa and Indian Ocean, French Foreign Ministry
Chair: Bob Dewar, former British High Commissioner to Nigeria

At this meeting, the speaker will reflect on the new realities in Africa brought about by the revolutions in North Africa and especially NATO’s intervention in Libya. With relations between Europe and Africa going through a challenging period, and African states increasingly diversifying their international partnerships, trade and political and development interests in Africa are once again in flux. Mr Gompertz, who is stepping down from his role at the French Foreign Ministry, will discuss the roles France, Europe and African states are likely to play in some of these complex developments.
