The author of numerous works on Ethiopia, Professor Markakis will discuss his new book on the country’s efforts to integrate a multicultural empire into a modern nation state. He will argue that there are two major obstacles to the Ethiopian state achieving the secure borders that a mature nation state requires which he will outline at this event. Professor Christopher Clapham will respond to and debate his key arguments.
