Libya: Challenges after Liberation
Sir Richard Dalton, Convener, Libya Working Group and Associate Fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House
As the eight-month conflict has drawn to a close, the challenges facing the new Libya have become increasingly apparent. Meeting for the fourth time the Libya Working Group will examine the situation after liberation with a focus on politics and society. The roundtable discussion will look at the interim government, with an emphasis on their legitimacy and control and the implementation of the transition plan towards constitutional elections. Questions of regionalism; local leadership and communities; the place of Islam in public affairs; the role of political parties, the future of the armed forces and armed groups and militias, will also be addressed.
Attendance is by invitation only.
