Georgian-Abkhazian Relations: An Inside Perspective

16 December 2011 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Chatham House, London

Archil Gegeshidze, Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies
Arda Inal-Ipa, Center for Humanitarian Programs

Archil Gegeshidze and Arda Inal-Ipa will discuss recent research facilitated by International Alert looking at potential ways forward for Georgian-Abkhazian relations. Although contact at the official level is nearly non-existent, the past few years have witnessed some successful confidence-building measures on the ground. Since 2008, International Alert has facilitated a ‘dialogue through research’ process whereby Georgian and Abkhaz experts have commissioned each other to research certain aspects of the conflict in order to engage in joint analysis and public debate, and to promote a new way of thinking about the conflict.
