28 February 2012 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Chatham House, London

Dr Gerard Lyons, Chief Economist and Group, Head of Global Research, Standard Chartered
Professor Catherine Schenk, Professor of International Economic History, University of Glasgow

The global economic crisis and concern surrounding the international monetary system's performance led to Chatham House setting up a global taskforce of experts to assess what role, if any, gold could play in the international monetary system.

This event will present the findings of the taskforce's report, which concludes that gold can play a role during times of economic uncertainty. However, it is imperative that the role of gold remains limited to avoid hindering the international monetary system's performance or creating constraints on national economic policies.
