Focuing on issues of democracy, legitimacy, accountability, solidarity and identity, the participants will debate the prospects for the European Union in the context of the ongoing sovereign debt crisis. Questions addressed in the discussion will include:

  • Do citizens, even in pro European countries, really want a federal Europe? Do they share a common vision for what it would look like?
  • How long can the technocratic governments that have been foisted on many European countries without a political mandate be sustained?
  • Are the other member states comfortable with the dominance of Germany at Europe’s centre?

This event will be followed by a reception at 19:30
